About John
Hi! I'm John Lucassian of Afternoon Studios. Detroit Boudoir is my website for boudoir photography. Due to the personal and private nature of boudoir photography, I felt it deserved a place seperate from other types of photography.
I started off my photographic career specializing in people photography, including fashion photography, portfolio photos for models and actors, traditional portraits, and some commercial work.
Not surprisingly, I received calls from time to time asking if I did "boudoir photography" or "sensual portraits." At the time, there were few studios that did this specialized type of photography, and really, none in Michigan. (And today, sadly, many of the photographers that do shoot glamour shors, aren't exactly 'professional'!)
My experience working with fashion models served me well and my customers found me to be easy to work with and, most importantly, they liked my images.
I treat my customers with respect and sensitivity and my photos are a reflection of each of them and their tastes. I'm often told by my customers that they chose me because my website shows my respect for my customers and their privacy.
About Boudoir Photography
Boudoir Photography, also known as glamour photography, is a personal and tasteful style of private photography usually done as a gift from a woman to her partner as a memory to cherish.
Boudoir photography is nothing new. Looking back in history, tastefully done paintings of women in various states of undress have been done for centuries. These paintings were usually commissioned work, were quite expensive and were a luxury reserved for the wealthy. More recently, during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, it was not uncommon for men entering the military to recieve pin-up photos from their wives or girlfriends before enlisting or shipping out to war. However, after the Vietnam war, it was not as widely practiced. More recently, with the advent of digital cameras, it has made a come back as a new and popular type of photography.
